5 Steps to Healing

Here is a prescription for your healing. When you go to the doctor’s, you may get a prescription. You may not be sure if it will work, but you - by faith - follow it. In a similar way, follow God’s instructions for our healing. They are not hard. The Gospel of Luke tells us twice that sick people came “to hear and to be healed” by Jesus (Luke 5:15, 6:17). If only our praying matters, and hearing Biblical instructions didn’t matter, why would Luke the Physician record they had to first “hear” and then they were “healed”?

1. TAKE GOD’S MEDICINE

Proverbs 4:20-22
20 My son, give attention to my words;?Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes;?Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them,?And health to all their flesh.

Notice God’s Word is God’s Medicine. Double up on your daily medicine! If you read 2 chapters of the Bible a day, read 4 when you’re trying to get strong. Read 10 to get stronger. People have been healed by doing nothing more than taking more of God’s medicine!

Matthew 4:4
…‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’

Matthew 6:11
Give us this day our daily bread.

Another way to double up on God’s medicine is to read Christian books on the subject of healing. Listen to CDs and watch DVDs on healing. Some well-intentioned people may give you things to read and watch that have nothing to do with healing. Put those on the shelf. Focus. “My son and daughter, give attention to MY WORDS.” You want to be healed. Put healing thoughts, words, stories, and examples into your spirit. Isn’t it true what you put in is what you get out?

Another great way to fill up on healing is to attend a church that believes and trains people in divine healing. Many people in our church based in Melbourne have been healed before anyone ever prayed for them. How? By sitting under the anointed preaching of God’s Word. I believe that’s how those sick people got healed in Luke 5:15 and 6:17. There’s no indication Jesus ever laid hands on them. They listened attentively and their disease disappeared. God did that for them, why not for you, too?

2. SPEAK WORDS OF LIFE

Speak what you want [healing], not what you fear [pain or dying]. It’s a decision what kind of words you speak when you’re sick. Faith words turn hopeless situations around. Faith is not denying reality, but changing reality. Yes, the doctor may say they have reached the limits of medical science to help you, but with God nothing shall be impossible.

Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Words are free. It’s just as easy to say words of doubt as to say words of faith. It does not matter if you don’t “feel like” speaking positively. Faith in your heart will work with doubt in your head, because faith works by words, not by feelings.

James 3:10
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

By faith, speak God’s Word about healing, and healing will flow for you.

Matthew 8:17
…He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.

Say, “I believe Jesus Himself took my [name your disease] and bore my [name your symptoms].”

1 Peter 2:24
[Jesus] Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree [cross], that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

Say, “God’s Word says I was already healed. I’m not going to be healed, because I was! I’m not waiting for God to do something, God has already done it for me! I agree with 1 Peter 2:24, I refuse to take sides against God’s Word. Jesus paid for the price of sin and sickness, it’s up to me to believe and receive His Word. Thank You Lord for making Jesus my Doctor and Healer. Hallelujah!”

Don’t doubt the power of anointed words.

Mark 11:22-24
22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.
23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

Faith does not mean quitting your medicine or not having an operation. Faith has to do with the words you choose to speak. You can avoid an operation out of fear and you wouldn’t be any more in faith. When you are in faith, trusting God, you have peace in your heart no matter what you do.

3. WALK IN LOVE

The number one reason Christians are sick is NOT because they don’t have enough faith or that they are living in some gross sin. The number one reason Christians are defeated is they walk out of love.

Get back in love. Make a decision to forgive and refuse to hold grudges, take vengeance or be vindictive. Suffering injustice does not give us the right to retaliate, it will hurt our faith.

Galatians 5:6b (KJV)
…faith worketh by love.

Faith works by love and love works by faith. The two are inseparable.

Exodus 15:26
and [God] said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

All of God’s commandments under the old covenant were summarized by Jesus in one word: LOVE. If we love, we fulfil God’s commands, and when we do, we can expect God to be our “Jehovah-Raphah” ~ the Lord our Healer. Until then, we are only hoping to be healed, but we do not have the confidence that we are indeed healed.

Mark 12:30-31
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Love is the fulfilling of the law. Love is God’s will. It’s important that we know we are in God’s will BEFORE we pray, otherwise our hearts will condemn us and we will not approach God confidently.

1 John 3:21,22
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

If you have offended anyone, humble yourself and ask them for forgiveness. If anyone has offended you, don’t get even. Don’t do what you know will hurt them. Show mercy. Show kindness. If they are gone or out of your life, release them with your words, “I forgive [name the person]. I let them go. Lord, bless them and show Your goodness to them.” You don’t have to “feel” like forgiving, you just have to make a quality decision and stick with it. Feelings follow faith and action!

Now be assured you are in God’s will! According to the Bible, it is His will that your prayer be answered, your body be healed and your mind be whole - Hallelujah!

1 John 5:14-15
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

4. RESIST WORRY

After having followed God instruction – read the Bible every day and go to a church that teaches uncompromisingly about healing; change your words to agree with God’s Word, even before you see or feel any physical changes; make a choice to walk in love towards everyone in your life, bless and do not curse, do good for them; now refuse to worry.

Worry is the thief of God’s blessings.

Philippians 4:6 (NET)
Do not be anxious [worry, fret or be afraid] about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.

1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care [worry] upon him; for he careth for you.

Matthew 6:25, 31-33
25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing?
31 So then, don't worry saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?'
32 For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33 But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

We worry because we doubt God will come through for us. Worry leads to depression. Worry is absolutely useless. Worry is a sin. Most people think of sin as something outward, like murder and adultery, but God views sins of the heart as seriously as sins of the flesh, perhaps even more! Jealous is a form of worry. Greed is a form of worry. Losing sleep and not eating right are expressions of worry. Make the decision not to fall into worry.

Worry is believing the worst will happen to you, when God’s Word promises the opposite!

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Resist worry by telling God, “Lord, I cast all my worries and cares upon You, because I know You care for me. You are watching over me. All things are working together for my good who love You and am called according to Your purpose. I can live worry free and sickness free, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

5. ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOR & HEALER

I find that when people are sick, they often reassess their lives. They tend to think about what is important and what is frivolous. Others around them may get uncomfortable with this, but I believe it is a healthy process. God is very comfortable with you assessing your life. God has been, in fact, waiting for you to be honest about your mistakes and come clean with your sins, then turn to Christ. This is a good place to be.

Surrender your life now to Christ. He alone can clean up your mess, wash away your past, and give you a new start. He died on the Cross as your substitute. He defeated death and hell and rose again from the dead after three days. He is alive and coming back to judge the living and the dead. As wonderful as physical healing is, nothing compares to eternal salvation. When we are healed, we only live a few more years on earth. But when we are saved by the Blood of Jesus, we get to live in Heaven forever and ever.

Romans 10:9, 11
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”

Confess now, “I believe Jesus is truly the Son of God and the sinless Savior of the world. Thank You for dying on the Cross as my substitute. Thank You for paying the penalty of all my sins, too many to count. I believe You defeated death, hell and the grave, so I have no more fear of dying. You are my God, my Savior, my Healer. I am saved and I am healed. From this day onwards, my life is Yours. Help me find a good church, live for Your purpose and serve You till I see You face-to-face. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.”
